Our Story

A loving connection to Spetses Island, since 2003.

Our Journey

Greece and Spetses, have always had a special place in our hearts. After living
fast-paced lives in London and Paris, we chose to reconnect with the magical Mediterranean region, inherited from our families’ origins.
This is our story, growing up far, far away from big cities, closer to nature, bathing into the beauties of the Myrtoan Sea and waking-up every day with the crickets’ music.

Saying YES in Spetses
We chose this magical island and one of its pebbled beaches, to tie the knot and host our wedding party, surrounded with our friends and family.

Becoming a Family
Our daughter Athina was born in London, and only a few months later, we packed the car and moved our new family of three to Paris. This year, our family grew bigger. We gave birth to two children: our dear son Leo born in Athens, and our hotel!

The Start of A Dream
When we first entered the big wooden door and visited the Spetsiotis-style house, hidden in a quiet backstreet, it was obvious that it needed a renovation. And we were ready to make it happen! And in 2019, our dream came true.

Launch of Nissimou, NGO
In October, we launched our NGO, NISSIMOU. Inspired by our daughter Athina's story and communications challenges, NISSIMOU’s mission is to support the island's children, and provide a different range of therapies as well as inclusive workshops. Hospitality Excellence

Hannah pursued a career in digital marketing straight after graduation. This led her to work for some reputed companies such as Proximity BBDO, Apple EMEA HQ, Caprice Holdings. She later completed a Master’s degree from LCC in Public Relations and opened her own consultancy in 2015, HB DIGITAL. She continues her social media work for her family’s belgian chocolate brand, Café-Tasse.

Karl, with his friendly personality, has always been more interested in hotel operations and guest relations. He enjoys working with people and meeting clients from all over the world and has been working in the industry for more than 10 years. His experience includes top five-star properties such as the Fairmont in Montreux, the Landmark and Grosvenor Casinos in London, Intercontinental Hotels in Geneva and Paris.

More than Great Service

We believe hospitality is about more than great service. At Yayaki Spetses, each traveler is looked after as a family member, whom we are happy to see after long periods of separation.
This is an original approach, halfway between a luxury boutique hotel and a family guest house.

During your stay, we will be your personal guides on Spetses, from March to November. We will be sharing our tips and preparing a homemade gourmet and healthy breakfast every morning.

As part of the Yayaki Spetses experience, we invite you to take part in some relaxing, joyful, adventurous or spiritual activities. While Karl will take you for an athletic sunset run along the coast, Hannah will share a yoga session with you, in a hidden creek!

Discover your new destination for a romantic getaway, summer holiday or outstanding retreat, under the auspices of the Greek stars, Gods and Goddesses.

The Yayaki Spirit

Yayaki is an homage to our Greek, German, Lebanese and French grandmothers. It is their deeply kind souls, lifestyles and wisdom that surrounded and nourished us. What if Yayaki was also a little unconventional, gifted with humor and full of ideas? Yaya means “grandmother” in Greek.
The “ki” is the sweet touch imagined by Hannah and Karl.

It is the little nickname Hannah used for the first time as a kid, to call her own grandmother. More than a hotel, Yayaki offers travellers a loving home where you are invited to stay just like any member of our extended family.

Behind the Scenes of creating Yayaki...

Special Thanks

Special thanks to our families, friends, collaborators and suppliers, who made it possible for us to turn our dreams into a reality and without whom Yayaki Spetses would not have come to life. We feel very lucky and excited to welcome guests to be part of the Yayaki family and join the adventure for a weekend, romantic trip, family holiday, seminar or yoga retreat. - Hannah & Karl
